hypnologorrhea is a term i coined around 2022 to refer to a phenomenon whose experience i have been actively cultivating since the late 2010s in which the brain discharges lexical information during the transition state between waking and sleep or vice versa. some popular examples of this have already been widely recognized, like "please contact pedro s." and the thomas the plank engine subreddit. i had theorized that it happens due to the region of the brain which interprets—assesses the contextual validity of—language "shutting off" before that which produces it in an abstract sense. this would turn out to be mostly corroborated by the literature: my hypnologorrhea had effectively been documented and studied by the psychiatrist Emil Kraepelin—who called it traumsprache—as early as the late 19th century; the "interpreting area" of the brain ("suppressing" uninhibited flow) to which i had loosely referred is called Wernicke's area, and its counterpart, the one associated with the enforcing of syntax, is called Broca's area. this is a massive oversimplification to the point that it would likely with regard to any other application be considered inadmissible, but my primary purpose in collating this page is not to cement myself as an authority on the neuroscience of unconscious thought, but to share and explore its inherent intrigue, humor, and value as a direct portrait of mind, or even poetry. i feel an important thing to articulate is that for me it's typically less a perception of language as-is and more a direct firing of synapses which give the illusion that this has happened, or even that the implied content is being remembered, as if using a mnemonic, although occasionally a transcription is required from aural or visual phantasmagoria to text.

these particular samples have been collected between 2021–2024. i think that they are very interesting as they seem to suggest that prolonged exposure to abstract meta-concepts like Unicode special characters, titled music, and MS-DOS file naming conventions (these are not embellished—nothing has been modified for readability or emphasis and any oddities you see, including line breaks, would have been present in the original text) is sufficient grounds upon which they might manifest under these automatic circumstances, as by the mechanisms of learning a language to fluency.
